She married Stanley Richard Hailstone Gifford Burgess at the Registrar's Office in Sydney, New South Wales, on 12 August 1929. Both of them were living in Pott's Point at the time, and he claimed to be a taxi driver - she gave no occupation. However, in the 1930 Electoral Rolls, he gives an occupation of 'planter'.8

She and her husband Stanley arrived in Auckland from Sydney on the Ulimaroa on 14 October 1930 but there is no mention of her children on the manifest. Both are classified under a heading of 'labourers and domestic.9'

She and her husband Stanley arrived in Southampton on 11 July 1931 on the Corinthic, having left Auckland on 2 Jun 1931 (under the name of Giffard-Burgess) accompanied by their children Richard and Peter.10,11

Albert was a pit and sessions wind instrument musician with the Carl Rosa opera company and the family later moved to Ireland. It is unclear why Jean waited so long to adopt her out, but presumably circumstances must have changed for her to take this path.13

She was listed in the 1939 Register at 42 Oxford Rd in Reading, Berkshire; widowed, and Staff Supervisor in the filing department of National Accounting Machines.3

Jean's second marriage was to Raymond Norman Bournon on 6 July 1945 in Reading, Berkshire.14

Why he never became so we cannot say. He left Dunfallandy shortly after leaving school, and learned the building trade under his father."1

He married Christy McGregor, daughter of Alexander McGregor and Margaret McFarlane, in Innerhadden, Rannoch, Perthshire, on 6 December 1820. His son John, in his submission to the Records of the Clan Fergusson (1895) stated that "In the year 1820, when he was building Muir Lodge (his first contract after his apprenticeship), he made the acquaintance of Christina, eldest daughter of Alexander Macgregor, Inverhadden, ruling elder of the Established Church, Kinloch, whom he subsequently married in the end of February or the beginning of March 1821" (although this date is clearly suspect).5,4,6

He was listed in the 1851 census as Head of Family at Balmore in Logierait, Perthshire, with his wife Christy; he was a mason. Their children Jane, Janet, Mary, Ann, Elizabeth and Catherine were listed as living with them.8
