He was appointed Civil Surgeon and put in charge of the hospital at Peshawar, where he was assassinated by a Muslim hospital orderly, a semi-educated youth named Abdul Rashid with a political motive, on 22 July 1932. His widow was awarded an extraordinary widow's pension of £140 a year by the Indian government, and also awarded a special gratuity of the maximum permitted by the Government's rules. They had no children.¹
