Ernest Whitmore Newton GUINNESS was born in 1865 in Dublin.2
Ernest Whitmore Newton GUINNESS married Annie Selina McNAUGHT, daughter of William McNAUGHT and Ann FORSAITH, on 23 November 1896 at Lahore Cathedral in Lahore.1 He was the son of the late Rev. William Newton Guinness, of Collooney, County Sligo, and was educated at Trinity College Dublin, and the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. Shortly after he qualified he joined the medical service of East Indian Railways and was principal medical officer for some years before he retired. From 1916 to 1919 he was with the South African Force in Tanganyika with the rank of Lieut.-Colonel, was mentioned in dispatches and awarded the OBE. He farmed for a time in Kenya and later, turning his attention to public health he was appointed M.O.H in Nairobi.
In 1940, when he was 75 years of age, he volunteered for service with the British and India Steam Navigation Co. and was at sea as a medical officer from 1940-43.
He leaves two sons, Mr. Eustace Guinness and Lieut. Colonel Bobby Guinness RE.3
