Elizabeth SMITH1

(c 1842 - )
Elizabeth SMITH was born circa 1842 in Scotland.1

She married Frederick CROSS, son of John CROSS and Agnes DORROCH, at the County Buildings in Edinburgh, Midlothian, on 7 January 1862. He described himself as a 'Mercantile Clerk', while she was a spinster, but both her parents (Robert SMITH, teacher, and Eleanor GORDON) were deceased. Given that both of them were under age (he 19, she 20), the marriage was performed under a warrant, and she was permitted to marry by James LIDDELL, grocer, and Harry LIDDELL, schoolmaster, presumably her guardians.1
