Mother*Dorothy Maude BRIGHAM1 b. 1894, d. 1948
Bruce Alexander Macgregor FERGUSSON was born in the Federation of Malay States circa 1920. This is partly assumption, but is based on his travel to the UK with his mother, aged 1, and the lack of any UK birth records.2

Bruce arrived in London on 15 September 1921 on the Syria from Singapore, giving a last country of permanent residence as FMS (Federation of Malay States) and returned to Penang on the Macedonia, leaving London on the 4 Aug 1922 with his mother Dorothy.2,3

Bruce left Penang for Pymouth on the Naldera, which arrived in London on the 25 April 1924, with his parents Keith and Dorothy.4

Bruce died on 5 July 1941 when the Anselm, the troopship he was aboard, was sunk by the German submarine U-96 off the Azores. The Anselm had been carrying over 1200 RAF and other personnel from Gourock to Freetown when attacked - Bruce was part of the RAF Takoradi (Ghana) contingent, the base being on the supply route for aircraft being sent to Egypt, the Middle East and even on to Russia. He was listed amongst the dead as Aircraftman 1st Class, #571505, RAF and is commemorated in Panel 57 of the Runnymede Memorial, Surrey.1

Donald FERGUSSON1

(1867 - )
Mother*Jane (Jean) FERGUSSON1 b. c 1833, d. 1913
Donald FERGUSSON was born at Balmore in Kinloch Rannoch, Perthshire, on 28 August 1867. His birth entry states that he was the son of the informant (Jane WILLIAMSON, maiden surname FERGUSSON), wife of James WILLIAMSON, "who, informant declares, is not the father of the child". He later appears in census entries as Donald CAMPBELL, and it is interesting (but inconclusive) that the 1861 census shows the FERGUSSON household had a neighbour Donald CAMPBELL.2
He was listed as the grandson of Christy McGREGOR in the 1871 Census in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, with his name recorded as Donald Ferguson CAMPBELL, implying his actual father's name.3
He was listed as the grandson of Christy McGREGOR in the 1881 Census at Struan cottage in Blair Atholl, Perthshire.4
He was listed in the 1911 census at Struan cottage in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, in the household of his mother Jane (Jean) FERGUSSON, with the occupation of shepherd.5
