Thomas Wistar BROWN was born in February 1858 in Pennsylvania.2
He married Margaret Muir COLDSTREAM circa 1890.1 Thomas was listed as the head of the family on the 1900 Census at 5255 Tennantown Ave in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,2 as a janitor who hadn't worked for 7 months - this is either a listing mistake by the enumerator, or a joke on Brown's part!2 In January 1907 he was convicted on six counts of cruelty to his 6 children (Margerie (15), Moses (14), Francis (12), William (10) and Rhoda and Lydia) and fined $100 on each count. Subsequent events became even more bizarre when their mother and friends were accused of kidnapping the 4 oldest children and forcibly removng them to California (from NY Times files). Thomas was listed as head of the family on the 1910 Census at 208 Wesley Ave in Ocean City, Cape May, New Jersey,3 with an occupation of 'none.3'
