Charles Green STEVENS

Charles Green STEVENS was born in Walsall, Staffordshire, in October 1810.1,2

He married Deborah Hannah BLOMFIELD, daughter of Ezekiel BLOMFIELD and Mary FUNNELL, at the Registry Office in Denton, District of Loddon & Clavering, Norfolk, on 21 November 1837.1,3,4,5 He was ordained on 27 November 1837 at Bristol, Bristol.1

They sailed under the auspices of the London Missionary Society, leaving 11 April 1838, arriving in Sydney September 10 and at Tahiti March 12, 1839. Due to ill-health, at the close of 1840 they left the islands and proceeded via America to England, where they arrived June 23 1841, when Charles left the LMS.6

Charles and his wife Deborah arrived in Liverpool on 2 April 1853 on the Great Britain, the ship having left Sydney on the 20 Dec 1852 accompanied by their children Fanny, Hannah, Charles, John and Joseph.7

He was listed in the 1861 census as Head of Family at 19 Chesterhouse St (a lodging house) in St Sepulchre, London, Middlesex; he gave his occupation as general merchant. His children Fanny and Algernon were listed as living with him.2

Charles Herbert Algernon STEVENS was born on 14 December 1901 in Arrah, Bengal,1 and was baptised on 8 March 1902 in Arrah.1

He married Daphne Joan Emma LIDDLE at St Augustine's in Thorpe Bay, Southend-on-Sea, Essex, on 7 August 1924.2,3
He served with 41 Squadron, RAF from 2 September 1935 until 11 Jun 1936, having been commissioned in Aug 1922 on his graduation from Cranwell. The squadron was equipped with Hawker Demons at this time.4

He was promoted from Flying Officer to Flight Lieutenant (6 Nov 1928), then Squadron Leader (1 Oct 1936), then to Wing Commander on 1 January 1940.5,6

Charles's death was registered between October 1986 and December 1986 in Torbay, Devon.7

Charles Richard STEVENS was born on 31 October 1865 in Buxar, Bengal,1 and was baptised on 10 December 1865 in Buxar.1

He married Emma Polglase JAMES at Christ Church in Bankipore, Bengal, on 14 April 1891.2,3

He was a Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers when married, but attained the rank of Captain by the time of his son's birth.4

Charles died on 14 August 1900 in Bhagalpur, Bengal, at age 34 of enteric fever.5,6 He was buried on 15 August 1900 in Bhagulpur.6

Frederick Haller STEVENS was born in Birkenhead, Cheshire, on 25 April 1853.1,3
He was listed as the brother of Fanny Maria STEVENS in the 1871 Census at 19 Church St, St Mary's in Warwick, Warwickshire, and was an Oxford under-graduate.3

He went to New College Oxford, where he matriculated in 1871 and then to Queens College Oxford where he graduated BA with honours in Mathematics, and later took MA. He went straight to Clifton College, Bristol (a well-known Public School) in Sept 1876, where he was one of the Maths teachers, and stayed there till retiring in 1904.
He was co-author of "A School Arithmetic", Hall, H.S., Stevens, F.H. 1908. (London: Macmillan) with 17 reprints over 53 years, with four between 1950 and 1961; "Elementary Course of Mathematics", Hall and Stevens, MacMillan 1901; "Lessons in Experimental and Practical Geometry", Hall and Stevens, Macmillan 1905.4,1
He was listed in the 1881 census at 47 Canynge Sq in Clifton, Gloucestershire, as Asst Mathematics lecturer at Clifton College, with a BA from Queens College, Oxford. It is unclear if he is really the Head at this address - he may be boarding with George AUSTEN, Professor of Music.5

He was awarded MA at Oxford, Oxfordshire, on 11 March 1886.6

Frederick's marriage to Elizabeth Mary IRWIN was registered between July 1886 and September 1886 in Barton Regis, Gloucestershire.1,7,8
