Mary died on 4 March 1976 at Gartnavel General Hospital in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, at age 87 of heart disease and cerebral degeneration.7

Robert married Margaret Cassidy on 18 September 1912 at St James manse in Old Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire. Robert, an electrical engineer, increased his age by 2 years to 28 (possibly to be closer to his bride's claimed age of 30?).5

He enlisted in the 3rd Gordon Highlanders as a Private (Regimental number 5/9605)) on 16 March 1915 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire.6
He served first with the 3rd, and later the 1st Gordon Highlanders (from 13 June 1915) where he suffered a gunshot wound to the right-thigh. He was then temporarily assigned as a munitions worker in Huddersfield from Dec 1915 until Apr 1916. On 1 Aug 1918 he was posted to the BEF and travelled via Folkestone to Boulogne where he joined the 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders before being posted to the 6/7 Gordon Highlanders on 6 Oct 1918. Sometime between the 12 and 15 Oct he suffered a gunshot wound to the right arm, requiring him to spend 3 mths in hospital.
He was subsequently transferred to the Reserves on 17 Feb 1919.6

Robert died on 29 September 1964 at Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, at age 78.7
