James Algernon STEVENS (1873-1934)
James Algernon Stevens was born in Cuttack, Bengal, on 2 October 1873.1 and was baptised on 9 November 1873 in Cuttack.1
He was listed as the grandson of Deborah Hannah Blomfield in the 1881 Census at Marwood House in Honiton, Devon.2

He married Ethel Lucy Cloete in Ranchi, Calcutta, Bengal, on 23 July 1901.3

By 1902 he was District Superintendent of Police in Bengal.4

He was appointed administrator of Phyllis Stevens's estate in Bristol, Bristol, on 23 February 1927.5

He was appointed executor of Frederick Haller Stevens's estate in Bristol, Bristol, on 2 December 1933, in conjunction with the Public Trustees. The estate (his uncle's) was worth over £72,000.6

James died on 11 December 1934 in Bournemouth, Dorset, at age 61.7

John Foster Stevens KCSI was born in Hobart, Tasmania, on 9 July 1845.1,2

Fanny, Hannah, Charles, John and Joseph arrived in Liverpool on 2 April 1853 on the Great Britain, the ship having left Sydney on the 20 Dec 1852 with their parents Charles and Deborah.3 He was listed in the 1861 census with his brother Charles Cecil Stevens KCSI boarding at 17 Lloyd Sq, St Sepulchre in London, Middlesex.4

He married Frances Louisa Jeremie at St Saviours Church in Shahabad, Bengal, on 1 October 1868.5,6

He followed his brother into the Indian Civil Service and had a similarly distinguished career from 1865 as a District Judge, then Judicial Commissioner of the Central Provinces (1891-4), Puisne Judge of the High Court, Calcutta (1897-1904), after which he retired.7

By 1886 he was Inspector of Police in Bengal.8

He was appointed Judge of the High Court of Judiature at Fort William, Bengal on December 1897.9

He was widowed at age 59 on the death of his wife Frances on 17 October 1904.10

He was appointed executor of Frances Louisa Jeremie's estate in London on 25 November 1904.10 John was awarded the Knight Commander of the Star of India (KCSI) in Jan 1905.11

He was listed in the 1911 census as Head of Family at 7 Lansdown Place in Bath, Somerset; he was a retired Indian civil servant.12
He was listed in the 1921 census at The Burlington Hotel, Catherine Terrace in Burnham, Somerset, and gave his occupation as retired from the Indian Civil Service.13
