(1875 - 1930)
Father*John HYSLOP1 b. c 1823, d. 1888
Mother*Elizabeth FERGUSSON1 b. c 1846, d. 1923
John Alexander HYSLOP was born in Durisdeer, Dumfries, in 1875.1,2
The siblings John, William, Robert and Christina were listed in the 1881 census at Drumlanrig Mains cottage in Durisdeer, Dumfries, with their parents, John HYSLOP and Elizabeth FERGUSSON.1
The siblings John, Robert, Henry and David were listed in the 1891 census at 7 Willowbank Cres in Kelvin, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, with their mother Elizabeth FERGUSSON. John was working as a clerk.3
The siblings John, Robert, David and Henry were listed in the 1901 census at 16 Stanley St in Kelvin, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, with their mother Elizabeth FERGUSSON. John was a law clerk, Robert a vanman for a fruit merchant, David a distiller's clerk and Henry (Harry) an electrician.4

He married Margaret Martin BENNET in Dundee, Angus, in 1908.5

He was listed in the 1916 Canadian census as Head of Household at 613 McPherson in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with his wife Margaret; he was an accountant in a lawyer's office. Both appear to have understated their ages by 7-8 years. The household included their infant son Ian (aged 2).6

John died on 29 October 1930 at 210 Dundas St in Belleville, Hastings Co., Ontario, of myocarditis. The death certificate gives an occupation of accountant and a claimed birthdate of 18 Jul 1881 (thus an age of 49). Given he was 5 at the time of the 1881 census, the year is clearly incorrect.7 He was buried on 1 November 1930 at the Belleville Cemetery.7
