Richard Arthur Goodwin1,2

Richard Arthur Goodwin was born in Chippenham, Wiltshire, on 1 October 1879.2,3 and was baptised on 9 November 1879 in Chippenham.3

He was educated at Christ's Hospital, Oxford and graduated with a BA in 1901, later taking Holy Orders. He served in WWI with the Army, but by 1923 was a curate at Biggleswade.4

He married Mary Scott Fergusson, daughter of Norman Gardner Fergusson and Caroline Mary Graham Scott, at Hounslow Holy Trinity in Hounslow, London, Middlesex, on 27 January 1917. Richard gave his occupation as 'army paymaster.5,6'

In 1928 Richard petitioned Mary Scott Fergusson for divorce.7

He joined the Loretto School, Musselburgh, outside of Edinburgh in 1929 as chaplain and served until retiring from the role in Feb 1940. He was active in supporting the cricket team and after his marriage in 1938 he and his wife gave a number of musical recitals.8

Richard's marriage to Edith Mary Cleeves was registered between January 1938 and March 1938 in London, Middlesex.9

Richard died on 24 January 1957 in Fish Hoek, Cape Province, at age 77.10

His will was probated in Gloucester on 28 May 1957 with effects in England of £1138/1/5.10
